API-led architecture implementation for a primary Italian mass media company

Primary Italian media company saw Arlanis Reply active in the design and implementation of a modular enterprise architecture to support a new digital transformation paradigm on multiple levels (channels, processes, and data).

The Challenge

Arlanis Reply was commissioned by a leading company in the media and communications industry to implement an internal automation system that connects the various existing systems in the application landscape for centralised customer data management. The project served as a pilot for a comprehensive renewal of the technologies in the company's IT infrastructure. The previously used technologies were abandoned in favour of MuleSoft.

By using MuleSoft, a market-leading integration solution, an automated process was developed on a multi-layered architecture. This architecture is based on an API-driven approach that is able to interface with the company's various legacy systems. In addition, this architecture enables the coexistence of cloud and on-premise environments.

The Solution

The implemented solution included the creation of a cancellation register, a database containing information about the cancellation of customer records, combined with an orchestration process based on MuleSoft as an integration platform, which enabled the development of an automated process based on an API-driven approach. The cancellation register and orchestration process integrate seamlessly with all systems containing information about the deletion of users. The personal data is deleted either on a voluntary basis by the users or according to the management guidelines defined by the client organisation.

Thanks to the API-driven process, the system can automatically integrate with all of the organisation's legacy systems and delete user information that meets the above deletion criteria.MuleSoft's implementation gives the customer access to APIs for executing user data deletions, both through a single request channel and through a channel for simultaneous deletion of multiple user records. This makes it possible to overcome the siloed structure of the various platforms in the enterprise environment, which are isolated and cannot automatically communicate with each other. In addition, MuleSoft's solution offers powerful performance monitoring tools that can be used to monitor call response times and take action to improve overall performance.

Mulesoft

Mulesoft, a Gartner-recognised leader in API Management Life Cycle and ESB As a Service, overcomes the outdated concept of point-to-point integration between systems with a multi-layered integration logic based on the API concept.

APIs are organised on different levels that correspond to the frequency of updates and the systems they support. The three main layers are differentiated as follows: System API, Processes API and Experience API. Each of these levels serves a corresponding layer whose update needs vary depending on its proximity to the end user, from data to processes to channels. This architecture makes it possible to decouple the static nature of legacy systems from the dynamics of the upper layers, which must respond to an increasing need to adapt user experiences. interdum. The Advantages

The implementation of the cancellation register based on the MuleSoft integration platform compensated for the lack of automated processes in the client's business environment, which managed cancellation requests through manual and inefficient processes based on email communication between departments.

The solution brought security and compliance benefits by enabling the company to better respond to GDPR regulations and accelerating the speed of processing user requests for the right to complete removal of all personal data. In addition, an authentication pattern was implemented in line with current industry standards, where customers authenticate themselves by issuing login tokens. In this way, it was possible to create a solution with increased security standards.

The implementation made it possible to standardise business processes between different systems by adapting them to a standard API-based process that ensures greater scalability, flexibility and governance.

Previously, the deletion of user data was carried out manually, so that only data from users who made a direct request for deletion could be deleted. With the proposed solution, it was now also possible to set up automatic deletion logics based on inactivity and administration policies, which improved system performance and reduced the required storage space. This led to an overall improvement in data quality.

The Context

A leading Italian media company underwent a significant software migration process, which involved an internal review and re-evaluation of their existing systems and resulted in a migration from their current solution to MuleSoft.

During the migration, various legacy systems of the company were integrated into the scalable and reliable iPaas (Integration Platform-as-a-Service) from MuleSoft. As a result, processes that were previously handled manually by employees were implemented and automated.

Arlanis Reply supported the company in this important step in the company's IT landscape.
