One of Microsoft’s first authorised Managed Desktop partners, IT Lab Group, has taken possession of managed service provider (MSP) Mirus IT Solutions.
The acquisition of the Milton Keynes-based MSP will raise IT Lab Group’s revenues into the realm of over £75m, according to the company. As an authorised Managed Desktop partner of Microsoft, IT Lab Group delivers assistance for end-user support on a global scale alongside Microsoft’s own Managed Desktop service. The organisation also closely works in conjunction with AT&T Cybersecurity where it leverages the Unified Security Management Platform (USM) AlienVault.
Impact and expansion
IT Lab Group has confirmed that both the management team and employees of Mirus IT will be kept on following the acquisition. The group has acquired three other companies in recent years, JMC in 2015, Perspective Risk in 2017, and Content and Code in September 2018.
Obtaining Mirus IT Solutions not only bolsters IT Lab’s revenues but adds strength to its ever-expanding operation of managed services. Running from Manchester, London, Cape Town (South Africa) and now Milton Keynes, the group will comprise 700 employees servicing 890 customers.
A mutually beneficial acquisition
From its Buckinghamshire location, Mirus IT has clients across the wider county of Buckinghamshire and nearby London. In the past 17 years, it has become well-established as a leading UK MSP.
Paul Tomlinson, CEO at Mirus IT Solutions is a regular keynote speaker at IT events, known for talking openly on the important qualities of a successful MSP. In regard to the IT Lab Group’s acquisition of Mirus and the decision-making process leading up to it, he was equally forthcoming, saying:
"In early 2019 we reviewed our long-term strategy and felt our clients' needs and the industry were changing rapidly. After thorough review, we felt that the right way to address this was to join a larger organisation who had the range of additional skills our clients needed and of course the same approach to providing an exceptional experience when delivering services."
He added that he had recognised IT Lab as a company with the skill set required for managing these evolving customer needs.
CEO of IT Lab, Peter Sweetbaum, commented that due to the group’s strong focus on Microsoft, it could immediately assist existing customers of Mirus IT. He explained:
"By coming together, we are able to help Mirus' clients benefit fully from Microsoft's 3 Clouds and the transformational capabilities of Dynamics; SharePoint; Teams and Power Apps in addition to Mirus' Office 365 and Azure offerings."
Sweetbaum also outlined cyber security benefits IT Lab could offer to Mirus’ customers including a Security Operation Centre (SOC) and penetration testing.
