Microsoft has now started to implement a number of its planned improvements to the user experience for SharePoint Online, with users of the Office 365 suite being the ones to benefit from these first upgrades.
Most of them were initially outlined by the software giant during last spring’s SharePoint Server 2016 launch event, with users now getting their first real chance to see them. One of the big upgrades is to the user experience for the ‘team news’ feature, with those who are on the ‘first release’ plan now set to find this feature centralised, via the homepage for SharePoint. These users should be starting to see this change already.
In its official statement to confirm the improvements, Microsoft indicated that a more widespread release to all Office 365 users would follow. The changes mean that the SharePoint tile, found within the App Launcher for Office 365, will be where users access team news from. This feature provides a news feed that is customised based on Microsoft Graph suggestions, the sites a person follows and their active sites.
Team news represents the latest SharePoint homepage addition designed to make it more user-friendly.
In its announcement, Microsoft said: “With the addition of team news, SharePoint home evolves into an intuitive, single location to see what’s happening in all your sites and portals, perform enterprise-wide search, create new sites – and now read all the news around you.”
