Microsoft is now working alongside the Metropolitan Police Service to help in the battle to reduce London’s crime rate, by cutting costs and making the city safer.
The US multinational corporation is supporting the Metropolitan Police’s move to transform into a data-powered organisation, rapidly advancing the digital transformation of the police service. This new initiative from the Met includes creating an up-to-date working environment throughout the force and effecting an approach to police work that is digitally supported.
Microsoft applications working for the Met
Microsoft Office 365 access will be given to all Metropolitan staff, enabling police officers and other personnel to devote more time to communities, spending less time carrying out manual tasks and empowering them with the vital information needed to protect vulnerable sections of society. Police officers will be able to access data records far more efficiently while out on patrol and employ Microsoft Teams to enhance communication and collaboration throughout the workforce, as well as wider communities.
Microsoft’s E5 platform for security and ATP (Advanced Threat protection) will ensure all sensitive information is fully protected, using automation and advanced analytics to identify vulnerabilities and possible cyberattacks.
Microsoft cloud capabilities put to good use
Microsoft is working in conjunction with Met Police to create innovative processes for digital investigation utilising the storage capabilities, scalable compute, automation and enhanced data techniques of its Azure cloud platform. Officers using the new processes will be enabled to accelerate investigation procedures while offering senior management a clearer overview of running investigations’ costs.
Police employees will use the Azure platform to host and provide critical essential applications to assist in supporting the Mayor’s dedication to keeping London’s citizens safe and answer threats when needed. Over 45,000 users have been successfully migrated to Microsoft Office 365.
Angus McCallum, Chief Information Officer for the Metropolitan Police, stated:
“Technology gives us the most incredible opportunity to identify more offenders, intervene before crimes are committed, locate fugitives or missing persons, as well as proving associations and motivations. But importantly, technology gives our evidence greater integrity and gives us greater legitimacy.
“Our work with Microsoft will enable us to seize the opportunities enabled by digital technology to achieve the best outcomes in the pursuit of justice and the support of victims.”
According to Microsoft UK, the combination of the corporation’s Azure, Office 365, analytics and digital forensics will allow London’s law enforcement officers to deliver results where they count most to citizens – keeping them safe and reducing crime levels.
Cindy Rose, Chief Executive for Microsoft UK, commented:
“Data is at its most valuable when it is harnessed to tackle the most important societal issues facing citizens.”
